The Reds ran out easy winners on an emotional day as we came together for the first game since Diogo Jota and his brother Andre’s sad passing.
First of all we would like to thank everyone connected with Preston North End for the part they played in helping us remember our number 20. They were exceptional throughout and we are eternally grateful..

With the players looking emotional still from the pre-game remembrance and the minutes silence the match started slowly as expected. There were no real chances to speak of before the first goal although youngster Rio Ngumoha broke through a few times and threatened with some great skill and strikes.
That first goal fell to Conor Bradley after some great work from Chiesa in the box. He wriggled free and squared a ball for Szoboszlai who sliced his shot into Bradleys path. He slotted it low into the far corner.

The second half started with a totally new 11 which is so often the case in pre-season. It saw a few more debuts too. After Mamadashvili kept his first half clean sheet we got to see Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong & Freddie Woodman in a Liverpool shirt..
In terms of action this half was a little more action packed as Preston stretched our back line on the counter and we dominated possession and carved open more opportunities.
We got the second pretty quick when Nunez latched on to a sloppy back pass. Rounding the keeper and slotting home with ease. The Uruguayan followed this up with a fitting Diogo Jota double celebration. Once again very emotional..

Liverpool were unlucky not to add a few more after great team play on various occasions through the impressive Cody Gakpo down the left flank. Opening them uptime and again. So it was a shock when Preston pulled one back to half the deficit.. With a bullet header from Lindsay.
The Reds hit the third through that man Gakpo after some great work down the wing from young Ben Doak. His cross was dummied by Nunez and Cody slid the ball into the bottom right hand corner..

The full time whistle was met with a long rendition of Diogo’s song where the fans and the players fittingly stood as one as they reflected once more on such a tragic loss.. We miss you Diogo..
