HIGHLIGHTS // Yokohama 1-3 Liverpool

Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners in their final game of the Asian Tour against Yokohama. The Reds were greeted by thousands of adoring fans once more in Japan for this friendly and we witnessed yet another quality rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. Which I still love more and more wherever we travel.

The game itself could have been much more of a spectacle had the pitch been in better condition. So in terms of analysis it’s very hard to look at things in too much detail.. There was some nice link up play on multiple occasions in the first half but it was hard to get shots away in dangerous positions as the pitch held things up.

Cody Gakpo curled one onto the post and new signing Hugo Ekitike was unlucky with a clever effort from close range with the keeper saving low to his left. Other than that it was tough as both teams struggled to get the ball under control..

The breakthrough came for the home side in the second half after a slick move was finished low into the far right corner left Mamardashvili no chance. Then Liverpool clicked into action. With Florian Wirtz scoring his first goal for the club showing his class.

After Curtis Jones broke up play he burst forward and had a quick interchange with Mo before back flicking a ball into Wirtz path. He finished with a touch of a class into the far left corner of the net with the keeper nowhere near..

This was Slots chance to ring the changes just after the 60th minute of the game and the match turned well into Liverpools favour. Mac Allister, Nyoni & Elliot joined Jones in slowing the game down in the middle of the pitch in doing so controlling the game and its tempo.

Frimpong and Ngumoha provided pace down the flanks when it was needed and it wasn’t long before our second goal. It was Frimpong who found himself free on the edge of the box and he drilled a whipped cross into Nyoni who made light work of a difficult finish from close range.

The third came through the impressive Ngumoha who at 16 looks like Liverpools version of Yamal. After coming close minutes into his substitution after a quality bit of dribbling and a well saved shot Robbo released the youngster into space through the middle of the park.

With options either side of him he took it on himself racing clear, then shimmying to the right to open up the space for a shot. Which he unleashed low to the keepers left from the edge of the box. There was talk of a loan for the promising winger but surely he is ready now and his future is far better placed being in and around this squad.

All the talk will be of Ngumoha and rightly so but Nyoni should also get a big mention here. Once again this was a very hard pitch to play on but these 60th minute subs made it look easy. Ngumoha looks like he could dribble and score on a farmers field.

While the touches and control of Nyoni were pure class at times. It will help him playing alongside Mac Allister no doubt. His performance and goal will do him the world of good and these two youngsters will save us a few quid in the transfer market that’s for sure..

The Reds will now fly home and gear up for Athletic Bilbao before the Charity Shield against Palace..
