Match Highlights

Liverpool 2-0 Man City

Liverpool were in stunning form as they made light work of beating Man City 2-0 in the Premier League top of the table clash at Anfield. Goals from Cody Gakpo & a Mo Salah penalty were enough to get the three pints but the scoreline flattered City big time.

The Reds were at it right from the start playing some of the best football under Arne Slot so far. Comfortable on the ball in possession. Nice and solid in defence with a powerful well constructed press. While in attack they were just explosive. Long balls.. Short passes.. One-Two’s.. Long shots. Well designed close range efforts. It was a full repertoire of what this team can deliver in that first half.

The only flaw if there was one was that we didn’t take our chances because if we had it could well have been 4 or 5 nil at half time and 7 or 8 nil by the end. The opposition wasn’t a Sunday League pub team it was the champions Man City who look a real shadow of themselves. We have lost count how many defeats that is now this season as they dropped out of the top 4 and 11 points behind us.

That first half and the game in general was a huge statement from Liverpool. Sure as Arne said ‘It was not perfect’ as second half we eased up a bit but if this is a starting block other sides will be worried when we do get close to perfection.

The goals came from some quality team play in the form of Cody Gakpo. As Trent found himself free in midfield he pinged a beautiful long range pass to Mo down that right. A pass we were hitting a lot with great effect. He cut inside and curled a pass for Cody to tap in from close range.

When Mo assists he usually backs this up with a goal and when Diaz broke free with some individual skill and desire the keeper brought him down and the ref pointed to the spot. After his penalty miss against Real Madrid in midweek Mo got straight back on the horse and placed a shot low to the keepers right and it was game over.

Liverpool have now beaten the Champions of Europe and England in the space of a couple of days. In doing so sit top of the Champions League Table and are 9 points clear in the Prem. We should also add that we have injuries too to key players. This is one quality squad. Built by Jurgen. We will never forget that. Yet it has been evolved and unleashed in formidable fashion by Arne.
